Spam unwanted e-mail at conservative estimate of 80 million e-mails a day. Any person or company can purchase a list of millions e-mails address for $25, and your address may be among them.

# 1* Do Not reply or (click here to be removed) this only confirms your e-mail address is active.
# 2 Do Not open unknown e-mail, Do Not save unknown e-mail.
# 3 Do Not open any attachment that contain .exe
# 4 Do Not open mail with wild or deceptive subjects titles.
# 5 Windows outlook express drop down menu in the "Tools" gives you the option to block sender. 
Many spam e-mails are now intentionally misspelling because of blocking defense.  

No one likes spam-mail including you internet service provider it ties up their mail server and slows the entire system down.
What you can do if mail comes from a company with a web site you can report the abuse to where it came from (came from yahoo.com) and they have a website listed there.
You can also post the spam abuse to Google Newsgroups - this is affective in getting the company URL banned.

*Spammers will have sentences which say something to the effect of "If you don't want to receive any more of these messages, send a reply to hah@i.got.you". In actuality, these spammers aren't providing you with a way to unsubscribe, but in fact are providing themselves a way to come up with e-mail accounts that they know are valid (because a real person replied from them). As tempting as it may be, just ignore these unsubscribe options, and you'll help to keep yourself off of many spam lists.

Use an e-mail client that "filters" mail into different folders. This will allow you to have e-mail that comes from people that you know, into certain folders, and have all of the other e-mail go into other folders. You can then read everything in the "IKnowYou" folder first, and read everything else at your leisure. While this doesn't stop spam, it allows you to read the important stuff without having to sort through it.

Serious business e-mail address uses the persons first initial and last name@  
or first name then(dot)last name@ .
Non-serious non-business e-mail address are sugarbear69(at)hotmail.com 

When sending e-mail even to people you know use the subject line addressing person to and person from regarding subject.
